About This Tool
Systems of measuring clothes sizes evolved differently in different parts of the world. Now, with online international shopping widely available, we often need to translate our own local size into another international system.
US Size System: In the US, shirt sizes for women typically range from XS to XL, with numbered dress sizes from 0 to 16 and pants sizes often listed by waist measurements in inches (e.g., 26, 28). US dress and pant sizes are generally one to two sizes smaller than UK sizes and run larger than Japanese sizes. For example, a US size 4 dress is equivalent to a UK size 8, an EU size 36, and a Japanese size 9.
UK Size System: UK clothing sizes for shirts typically range from 6 to 18, while pants and dress sizes are similarly numbered (e.g., 8, 10, 12). UK sizes are usually two sizes larger than US sizes and about one size smaller than EU sizes. For example, a UK size 12 dress corresponds to a US size 8, an EU size 40, and a Japanese size 13.
EU Size System: The EU system uses numbers like 34, 36, and 38 for shirts, pants, and dresses, reflecting chest, waist, and hip measurements in centimeters. EU sizes run about two sizes larger than US sizes and are typically one size larger than UK sizes. For instance, an EU size 38 shirt or dress corresponds to a US size 8, a UK size 10, and a Japanese size 11.
Japanese Size System: Japanese sizes are generally smaller, with shirts, pants, and dresses labeled with numbers like 7, 9, and 11, or letters like S, M, L. These sizes are typically smaller than both US and EU sizes; for example, a Japanese size 9 dress is roughly equivalent to a US size 4, a UK size 8, and an EU size 36. Japanese pants sizes also tend to be more fitted, with smaller waist and hip measurements compared to Western standards.
